“Happy’s Place” and “St. Denis Medical” have both been renewed for season 3 on NBC, Variety reported.
“Both ‘Saint Denis Medical’ and ‘Happy’s Place’ have comedic brilliance in their first two seasons, have genuine connections with viewers with their hilarious characters, and continue to be critically important and successful shows for the primetime and Peacock lineups,” said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content, NBC & Peacock. “A huge thank you to the producers, cast and staff of both shows for bringing these amazing stories to life and for continuing to tell us lots of laughs.”
NBC currently only has four comedies in its primetime lineup. In addition to “Happy’s Place” and “St. Denis Medical,” the station also airs the single-camera sitcom “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” and the sports mockumentary “Stumble,” both currently airing their first seasons. All four shows are produced by Universal Television.
The multi-cam “Happy’s Place” stars Reba McEntire, Belissa Escobedo, Melissa Peterman, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokara Black Elk and Rex Lynn. McIntyre plays Bobbie, who takes over her father’s bar, only to discover that she has a half-sister, played by Escobedo.
Kevin and Julie Abbott created “Happy’s Place.” Kevin will serve as executive producer along with McIntyre, Michael Hannell, Mindy Schultheis, Matt Berry and Pamela Fryman.
“St. Denis Medical” follows the staff and patients of a fictional Oregon hospital as they try their best to navigate the medical system and their lives. The ensemble cast includes Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Alison Tallman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leaper, and Kaliko Kauahi.
Eric Reddin will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Justin Spitzer, Simon Heuer, Ruben Fleischer, Bridget Kyle and Vicki Lu also serve as executive producers.
As of this writing, NBC has three comedy pilots starring this year. It’s a private eye show in LA with Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici. A comedy about two therapists led by Jane Lynch and Katey Sagal. and “Newlyweds,” a romantic comedy with Jamie Lee Curtis as executive producer.
