The Disney+ special celebrating the 20th anniversary of “Hannah Montana” reached 6.3 million views in its first three days of streaming.
Additionally, this anniversary sparked a huge spike in original Disney Channel series. Ratings for “Hannah Montana” itself were up 1,000% from last week to the week before. Although the series ended its run on Disney Channel in 2011, its popularity remains undiminished. Disney reports that “Hannah Montana” has been streamed for more than 500 million hours to date.
The anniversary special first aired on March 24, exactly 20 years after “Hannah Montana” debuted on Disney Channel and launched Miley Cyrus’ career. Cyrus revisited the set of “Hannah Montana” during the special, shared memories from the show with her mother, Tish Cyrus Purcell, was interviewed by “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper, and performed a “Hannah Montana” song in front of a crowd of fans.
“Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special” is produced by Hopetown Entertainment and Unwell Productions. Ashley Edens served as showrunner. Producers included Cyrus, Cyrus Purcell, Cooper, and Matt Kaplan.
