Guy Pearce apologized on Thursday for sharing “misinformation and falsehoods” about Israel on social media while supporting the Palestinian cause online.
“It turned out that I had inadvertently reposted articles and statements that contained misinformation and falsehoods in support of Palestine,” Pearce told Jewish News. “We understand that sharing inaccurate content can cause confusion and distress. We deeply apologize for this and will work harder to verify what we share online.”
According to Jewish News, “The Brutalist” star shared content online featuring highly controversial far-right political commentator and white supremacist Nick Fuentes. He also reportedly shared material accusing Israel of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, accused Israeli authorities of facilitating the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and claimed that “the top three porn companies are owned by Jews.”
Jewish News also reports that Pierce shared a post in early November that read, “Remember when Zionists say Islam will destroy America… Some of the major Las Vegas casinos and hotels that gave rise to gambling addiction, debt, and prostitution were built and owned by Jewish Zionists… Zionists (not Jews) want you to be afraid of people who stand up to the corruption they are creating.”
Early Saturday morning, Pierce issued a statement regarding X, announcing that he was taking a break from social media following the backlash.
“Earlier this week, I apologized for sharing misleading and inaccurate posts and comments on social media,” he wrote. “While I meant every word of that apology, I recognize that an apology must be accompanied by meaningful action. To prevent further hurt, confusion, and damage to others, I will be taking a break from social media for a period of time.”
