In a prime example of the anti-ICE protests that have spilled over into Hollywood, the movie Grey’s Anatomy suspended production on Friday in recognition of calls for a national shutdown.

Hundreds of organizations supported a one-day shutdown of work and commerce in response to the ICE raid in Minneapolis and a series of highly publicized killings by federal agents. “No work, no school, no shopping. Stop funding ICE,” the strike website reads.

A source close to “Grey’s Anatomy” confirmed to Variety that the ABC medical drama’s production crew was scheduled to be absent on Friday, so producers postponed production for that day. Season 22 of the long-running Shondaland and 20th Century series will resume filming on Saturday. Deadline first reported the news.

Calls to join the nationwide protests have been circulating on social media, with celebrities including Ariana Grande and Pedro Pascal sharing the information with their followers. Other Hollywood celebrities have also spoken out against ICE, including Billie Eilish, Olivia Wilde, Ed Norton, and Bruce Springsteen, who released a protest song titled “Streets of Minneapolis,” denouncing “King Trump’s private army” and “state terrorism” as ICE violence escalates in American cities.

“It’s really hard not to talk about what’s going on right now, the brutality of ICE, and how it must be stopped immediately,” Natalie Portman told Variety while promoting her film The Gallerist at the Sundance Film Festival. “It’s impossible. But at the same time, we have a beautiful community of Americans showing up for each other, protecting each other, and fighting for freedom. It’s a bittersweet moment to celebrate something that we’re so proud of in the context of this country.” pain. ”
