Green Lantern is ready for action in the new DC Universe.
HBO has released the first trailer for DC Studios’ “The Lantern,” which is scheduled for release in August.
“The Lanterns” revolves around Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and new employee John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), who investigate a murder in Nebraska. As Green Lanterns, they are intergalactic peacekeepers who wear emerald rings that give them the power to create constructs of green light of all shapes and sizes. The two must use their abilities to uncover dark mysteries and calculations that could destroy everything.
The trailer shows the buddy cop relationship between Hal and John, with the older Green Lantern showing the new recruits the ropes. In the opening moments, Hal drives his car off a cliff, forcing John to use his wits and Green Lantern powers to rescue him. The two must learn to work together to solve mysterious murders in a small town. There’s a quick shot of Green Lantern’s costume, ring, and power battery, as well as a reference to Chap, the extraterrestrial Green Lantern who looks like a squirrel.
Other cast members include Kelly MacDonald as small-town Sheriff Kelly; Nathan Fillion reprises his “Superman” role as Guy Gardner, a member of the Green Lantern Corps and the Justice Gang. Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, a modern-day cowboy. Poorna Jagannathan plays Zoe, a calm and cunning woman. Ulrich Thomsen: Plays Sinestro, a former member of the Green Lantern Corporation who turns into a villain. Nicole Ari Parker plays Bernadette Stewart, John’s mother. Jason Ritter plays Kelly’s husband Billy Macon.
