Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams will make her acting debut in A24’s latest film from Baby Girl director Halina Rayne.
Reyzin will write and direct the project, titled Please, starring Abrams. Details of the film’s plot have not yet been revealed.
David Hinojosa will produce this film, which will be his third collaboration with Laine. Reijn will also produce through his Man Up Film banner, with A24 also producing and financing. Zach Nutman will serve as executive producer.
Please is Ragin’s third film with A24, following the satirical slasher Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) and the erotic thriller Baby Girl (2024), making it the studio’s biggest global success, grossing $64 million worldwide. A24 also acquired his 2019 debut feature, Instinct.
As for Abrams, he has been producing hit songs one after another since bursting onto the music scene in 2019. Her EPs “Minor” and “This Is What It Feels Like” established Abrams as a talent to watch, with a knack for fusing elements of indie folk and pop. Her debut album, 2023’s “Good Riddance,” proved to be a major breakthrough, ultimately earning her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Abrams’ second album in 2024, The Secret of Us, was a huge hit with the singles “Close to You” (his first solo debut on the Billboard Hot 100) and “I Love You, I’m Sorry” (which rose to No. 11 on the US Spotify chart). Her next single, “That’s So True,” from the album’s deluxe edition, reached No. 1 on the U.S. Spotify chart and had over 100 million streams. The song also became Abrams’ first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 6. In 2025, Abrams won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his duet with Taylor Swift, “Us.”
Even with all her success in music, a career in acting was inevitable given that her father is industry titan J.J. Abrams (Star Wars, Star Trek, Alias, Lost).
