Martha Plimpton is not “embarrassing” her ADHD diagnosis.
While attending the “Task” premiere in New York City on Thursday night, the “Goonies” alumni significantly sported the “ADHD” necklace and proudly chatted on Page 6 about her condition on the red carpet.
“I have a slow diagnostic ADHD, like millions of others, in fact, that was a huge relief to be diagnosed,” explained Plimpton, 54, revealing that she was “about 50” when she received the news.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder characterized by a continuing pattern of one or more symptoms, including carelessness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
This is considered a “chronic disorder disorder” that can affect “many aspects” of a person’s life.
Plimpton shared that things made sense after the diagnosis.
“So many little things fell down, and there were meanings that were previously meaningless,” she explained, noting that she was “not embarrassed” and “finally free.”
“I’m happy to share my ADHDNESS with the world,” she added.
As for Plimpton’s latest project, the winner of Emmy returns to the small screen to play the FBI supervisor in “Task” opposite Mark Ruffalo.
“She’s a special agent in charge and she’s a woman, so she works really hard to get where she is,” Plimpton explained. “It means she had to deal with some bulls. She’s a woman I think knows how to get through the crap and take care of the business.”
It’s a distinctive feature that Plimpton can be personally involved.
She has been a solid advocate for abortion rights for many years, and Roev. Despite Wade being overturned, she refuses to be discouraged.
“I never lose hope, and that’s what they want,” Plimpton said. “It is absolutely possible to utilize tools and mechanisms to self-manage your abortion.
“I think it’s really important to spread the message in this country that mifepristone and misoprostol are still legal, still accessible and completely safe and reliable ways to end pregnancy.”
“Task” will begin airing on HBO and HBO MAX on September 7th.
