Germany’s leading independent company Leonine Studios has acquired distribution rights to Miramax’s sequel “The Beekeeper 2,” starring Jason Statham, in German-speaking Europe, excluding Prime Video’s paid slots.
Leonin will release the action thriller in German theaters on January 14, 2027.
The first installment, which was theatrically distributed in Germany by Leonine in January 2024, topped the box office charts, debuted at number one, had more than 800,000 local admissions, and generated more than 1 million digital transactions as the country’s most successful TVOD title of the year.
“The Beekeeper” grossed $162.6 million worldwide and received a 92% “Verified Hot” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Produced and financed by Miramax and released in non-German-speaking Europe through Amazon MGM Studios, “The Beekeeper 2” is directed by Indonesian director Timo Jajanto (“Nobody 2,” “The Night Comes”) from a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the original story. The sequel will once again star Statham as Adam Clay and will be produced by Statham’s Punch Palace Productions, Chris Long’s Longshot Productions, and Wimmer.
The cast includes Oscar winner Jeremy Irons, Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy, Central Park) as FBI Agent Verona Parker, Bobby Naderi (A Better Sister) as Matt Wylie, and Gemma Redgrave (Doctor Who, War on Land and Sea) as US President Jessica Danforth.
Newcomers to the franchise include Yara Shahidi (Black-ish, Grown-ish, Sitting at the Bar with Cake, Street Smart) and Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Westworld, Black Mirror) and professional wrestler and actor Adam Copland (Percy Jackson and the Black Mirror).
