Gerard Depardieu, who sparked a fork due to the French #MeToo movement, endures a criminal trial in which he is charged with rape due to allegations of digital penetration and sexual assault filed by French actor Charlotte Arnault.
Arnold filed these charges in 2018 at the age of 22, claiming that he was raped twice by Despardou at his Paris home on August 7th and 13th. Depardou has been indicted on these charges since December 16, 2020 and has attempted to file charges in 2022. According to news outlet France 24, it was charged.
Earlier this year, Despardou was convicted of sexual assault on two women and sentenced to 18 months by a Paris court, following a four-day trial in which Despardou rebutted all charges. The verdict stems from a sexual assault charge filed in 2021 by two women who worked on filming “Green Shutter,” a set decorator and an assistant director. The prosecutors fined the actor, obliged to be treated psychologically and to be registered on the sex offender’s file.
The set decorator and assistant director were some of 13 women who had sexually inappropriate behavior in a report published in April 2023 by the French investigative news website Médiapart.
Although he reluctantly retires from acting in the wake of these accusations, Depardou was offered the role by Fannie Ardant, a filmmaker who turned to famous French actress who rose to his feet during the trial, filming a film in Portugal in the spring.
