After Eric Dane passed away on February 19th, his closest friends set up a GoFundMe to raise money for his wife and two daughters.
The GoFundMe page says of Dane, who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in 2025: “Since his diagnosis, Eric has become a passionate spokesperson for the ALS community, using his voice and platform to advocate for and raise awareness for his fellow patients. Even as his own health deteriorated, he remained deeply committed to helping others facing the same devastating disease.”Eric’s friends rallied together to support his daughters and their future needs, as his disease progressed much more quickly than anyone else. I imagine they set up a GoFundMe. ”
“Every contribution, however big or small, will help bring stability to Eric’s wonderful daughters during this incredibly difficult time and to the future.”
To date, $178,064 of the $250,000 goal has been raised. “Euphoria” director Sam Levinson and executive producer Ashley Levinson are now the top donors with a joint donation of $27,000.
News of Mr Dane’s death prompted a flurry of online tributes from his closest allies. Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, who gave Dane his most widely known role as Dr. Mark Sloan, aka “McSteamy,” posted a statement on Instagram. She wrote that Dane’s “portrayal of Dr. Mark Sloan has left an indelible mark on the series and audiences around the world.”
The statement continued: “We are grateful for the artistry, spirit, friendship, and humanity he shared with us over the years. Our hearts go out to his family, loved ones, and all who were touched by his work.”
