Urban Sales has closed a number of deals for the French romantic comedy “The Doll” (“La Poupée Vertigo”) starring Vincent Macaigne (“Maria”), Cécile de France (“The New Pope”) and Zoë Marchal (“Overdose”).
Sophie Beaulieu’s feature debut, The Doll, is one of the many romantic films making waves at this year’s European film market.
The film was purchased by Neue Visionen (Germany and Austria), Vertigo (Benelux), HBO Central Europe, Caramel (Spain), and Capella (CIS). Julietta Bowyer’s new company, Global Pulse, has also installed it on its flights around the world.
The film will be released in France on April 22nd by Ad Vitam, who has recently directed “The Secret Agent,” “Private Life,” and “The Little Sister.”
In “The Doll,” Macaigne plays Remy, a turf vendor who has shared his life with a life-sized doll named Audrey (Marchal) since their final breakup. When temporary worker Patricia (de France) joins his company, Audrey mysteriously comes to life, setting in motion a series of surreal and transformative events that shake Remi’s life for the better.
Urban sales director Florencia Gil previously said the film “playfully plays with genre clichés through a witty and unexpected love triangle.”
The Doll is produced by Novoprod Cinema and co-produced by Atelier des Productions, 31 Juin Films, Les Films du Parc and Borsalino Prods. And Paprika movie.
Urban Sales’ EFM production also includes Gabe Klinger’s Brazilian film “Isabelle,” starring Marina Persson and screening at the Berlinale. The film was produced by Rodrigo Teixeira through RT Features, the same company behind Walter Salles’ Oscar-winning I’m Still Here.
