Freestyle Digital Media has acquired the North American rights to “Yes Repeat No,” a drama that explores Israeli-Palestinian identity. The film will be released on November 11th on VOD platforms and DVD in North America.
“Yes Repeat No” tells the story of three actors who audition to play the role of Juliano Mer-Khamis, a Palestinian-Jewish actor and activist who was assassinated on the steps of the theater he founded in Jenin in 2011. Born to an anti-Zionist Jewish mother and a Palestinian Christian communist father, Mel-Khamis became an internationally acclaimed actor in films such as The Little Drummer Girl and Miral, before embarking on a career as a director, theater founder, and political activist.
“Yes Repeat No” stars Salome Azizi (“The Director”), Moussa Quraysh (“Arab Juliano”), Adam Meir (“Public Juliano”) and Karim Saleh (“Israel Juliano”).
“Because we made this film before October 7, we were able to examine our collective and checkered history with nuance and compassion, without sticking to ‘sides’. We want to build bridges rather than fan flames and challenge viewers’ understanding of the conflict,” said filmmaker Michael Dahan. “By weaving direct quotes from Palestinian, Israeli, Arab, and American leaders throughout its dialogue, the film reveals how the meanings of the words spoken by politicians like Arafat and Netanyahu have changed over time. In a time of conflict, Yes Repeat No makes a case for imagining a better future, encouraging audiences to feel more understood and less alone.”
The film will be written and directed by Dahan, who will also produce the film along with N. Braxton Pope and Sara Sharawitz.
