Frankie Muniz reunites with his dysfunctional sitcom family, but there’s more chaos than ever.
The actor will reprise his role as Malcolm in the Malcolm in the Middle revival debuting April 10 on Hulu, and PEOPLE has posted the first look.
The revival, titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life Isn’t Fair, will see the return of Bryan Cranston as Hal, Jane Kaczmarek as Lois, Chris Kennedy Masterson as Frances, Justin Barfield as Reese, and Emmy Coligado as Piama.
New additions to the cast include Keeley Kirsten as Malcolm’s daughter Leah, Vaughan Murray as Malcolm’s youngest brother Kelly, Kiana Madeira as Malcolm’s girlfriend Tristan, and Caleb Ellsworth-Clarke as Dewey. (Former actor Eric Per Sullivan previously played Dewey on the original series.)

The synopsis for the four-episode limited series depicts Malcolm’s parents’ playful anniversary party. “After protecting himself and his daughter from his family for more than a decade, Malcolm is drawn back into Hal and Lois’ orbit when they insist on attending their 40th anniversary party.”
Malcolm in the Middle aired for seven seasons on Fox from 2000 to 2006.
Muniz, 40, recently spoke to PEOPLE about what it was like revisiting Malcolm in the Middle for the revival series, calling the experience “probably one of the best times I’ve ever had on set.”
“When I was doing Malcolm 20 years ago, I was a kid. I was like 13 to 20 when I was on the show. I just somehow showed up, was excited to be there, said the words on the paper, and it worked,” he recalled.

“As we grow up, we tend to overthink things…and we put even more pressure on ourselves,” he continued. “So I didn’t know what it was going to be like. Is it going to be easy to play Malcolm or it’s going to be awkward to get back together with the cast? I don’t want to sound cliché, but it was like no day had passed. We all fell right back into our roles, each and every one of us, when I first read it.”
The longtime star said this was “the first time in my life when I finished filming the reboot that I was happy to call myself an actor.”
“I always thought, ‘Oh, I’m acting, but I’m also doing other things,'” Muniz added. “It was really fun and a really great experience, so I hope you guys like it too.”
