Bryant Gumbel was reportedly hospitalized after suffering a medical emergency.
The former “Today” show host, 77, was removed from his Manhattan apartment Monday night, TMZ reports.
Officials said Gumbel was taken away on a stretcher and has remained at the hospital since Monday.
His condition and treatment details are unknown.
However, a family member told TMZ that the broadcasting legend is “okay.”
Gumbel’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The sports journalist was a heavy smoker, but after quitting, he battled lung cancer in 2009.
“I have nothing to hide,” Gumbel said during an appearance on “Live! with Regis & Kelly” in December 2009. “They cut open my chest, removed the malignant tumor, took part of my lungs, and other goodies.”
“And although most of the pathology was benign, aggressive cells were escaping the tumor, so some treatment was needed. And I went through that and it’s over now,” he continued.
Gumbel is best known for co-hosting the “Today” show for 15 years before leaving in 1997. He also hosted the HBO investigative series “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” from 1995 to 2023.
He retired in December 2023, when the HBO series concluded its 29th season.
His older brother, four-time Emmy Award-winning sportscaster Greg Gumbel, passed away in December 2024 at the age of 78 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
