On the first edition of “SNL UK”‘s Weekend Update, one person got the royal treatment: former Prince Andrew.
Hosts Ania Mariano and Paddy Young did not hold back in attacking the disgraced royal, who was arrested by British police in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office after Epstein’s files were released. Prior to that, he was also stripped of his royal titles and ordered to leave his home in Windsor.
“Weekend Update is about pedophilia. But first, war!” Mariano said as the segment began, drawing laughs from the live audience.
After a few punchlines related to the Iran war and a guest appearance by Al Nash as the power-hungry Captain Birdseye, the focus returned to the former prince. “Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s new home, Marsh Farm, has been undergoing renovations over the last month, including the installation of Sky TV. So for those of you watching this Andrew, hello! You’re not going to like it next time. And I’m older than I look,” Mariano joked, adding: “Andrew’s new home, Marsh Farm, is named after the nearby wetland where his body was found, of course.”
Next it was Young’s turn. “This week it was reported that the police investigation into Andrew is set to expand,” he said. “The big question now is, if Andrew is indicted, convicted and sent to prison, will he be able to keep his mouth shut? I hope not, said cellmate Penis.”
Another winning joke was about Britain’s other royal family, the Beckham family. “Father and son David and Brooklyn Beckham, who had a feud, almost ran into each other at the same Beverly Hills hotel,” Young began. “The feud began when Victoria became ‘inappropriately’ intimate with her son at his wedding, according to the citation, and escalated after Brooklyn accidentally shouted his wife’s name while having sex with his mother.”
