Former Nickelodeon star Kiana Underwood’s father has commented following her sudden death at the age of 33.
Kiana was killed in a hit-and-run accident while crossing a street in Brooklyn, New York, at approximately 6:40 a.m. local time on Friday, January 16, a New York Police Department (NYPD) spokesperson said in a statement to PEOPLE.
Her father, Anthony Underwood, shared a since-deleted message on Facebook about her death on Saturday morning, January 17th. In the post, the grieving father wondered if anyone had “comforted” his daughter in her final moments.
“So this time (my partner) Tia Invme Taylor and I were in the Catskill Mountains and we saw this fox on the road,” he began in his message.
“I knew I had been hit. It was a dangerous curving road and I thought I would move my car to the middle of the road to avoid being hit again. But before I could do anything, someone came around the corner and didn’t slow down even when I started flashing my high beams. So the driver hit the fox. I remember the fear I felt when I saw that,” he said.

“Another driver stopped, picked up the fox, which was still alive, and placed it on the side of the road,” he continued.
“All I can think about is, did someone show me the same compassion they showed me when someone ran over my baby like a car accident? Did someone try to comfort my baby as she lay dying, alone in the street, or just stand there with a cell phone in her hand?” he asked at the end of his post.

In a statement to PEOPLE, the NYPD said investigators determined that a black 2021 Ford Explorer SUV “driven by an unknown person” crossed the yellow line and “reversed” into traffic when it struck Kiana, who was crossing the road at a marked crosswalk at Pitkin Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard.
Kiana was lying on the road when she was “rear-ended by a black and gray sedan,” also driven by an unidentified person. Both drivers fled, and Kiana was pronounced dead at the scene, NYPD said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
Kiana appeared as a child actress on season 10 of Nickelodeon’s hit show All That in 2005. Apart from sketch shows, he also appeared in many TV series and movies throughout his career.
She voiced Fuchsia Glover for 23 episodes on Little Bill from 1999 to 2004, and then appeared on 24 Hour Woman, opposite Rosie Perez, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Patti LuPone.
