Ariana Grande is said to have felt triggered when she was attacked in Singapore this week, eight years after the tragic bombing at her concert in Manchester.
An enthusiastic fan identified as 26-year-old Johnson Wen was arrested on suspicion of public nuisance after lunging at an actress on the red carpet at the premiere of Wicked: For Good.
Wen has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, according to CBS News.
According to the Daily Mail, the attack triggered Grande’s PTSD, which stems from the 2017 bombing at a concert in Manchester that killed 22 fans and injured more than 1,000 others.
“Ariana is trying to calm herself down because she automatically jumps to the darkest possibilities,” a source claimed to the publication.
The source added that Grande “has never been the same” since the attack.
“When someone suddenly approaches or charges, it triggers her mind, almost like PTSD. Her mind immediately goes to the worst-case scenario,” the source continued.
The source claimed that the “Seven Rings” singer was “still having panic attacks” over the terrorist attack and “wanted to quit everything and become a hermit.”
The source went on to say that she too was “a victim” and is dealing with the aftermath “every day.”
“If someone is going to attack the entire arena she was in, they can do anything,” the source said.
Grande is reportedly “taking the necessary precautions and security will be increased… because the sooner she can put this in the back of her mind, the better.”
Grande’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
During the premiere of Wicked: For Good in Singapore on Thursday, Wen was captured on video breaking through lockdown and running up to Grande and putting his arm around her shoulders, looking distressed after being caught off guard.
Grande’s co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately came to the rescue and acted quickly to separate the rabid fan from the singer before security could arrest the man.
The Singaporean attacker is a repeat offender who has previously targeted stars such as Katy Perry and The Weeknd.
