Images published Monday on the Nintendo Today app offer a glimpse of young actors Beau Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who play the magical Princess Zelda and the green-clad swordsman Link, respectively, in the film adaptation of the popular video game. The photo shows Link and Zelda standing in a lush green field, Zelda holding her signature bow and arrow, and both actors wearing costumes with Hylian ears.
“Planet of the Apes” and “Maze Runner” director Wes Ball will direct the live-action “The Legend of Zelda,” which will be released in theaters on May 7, 2027.
Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo, who is producing the film, revealed the casting of Link and Zelda in the summer, writing in a social media post: “We are thrilled to announce that Zelda will be played by Beau Bragason and Link will be played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth in the live-action Legend of Zelda movie. We can’t wait to see them both on the big screen.”
British actor Bragason is known for his roles in the BBC One series “Three Girls,” “The Jetty” and Disney+’s “Renegade Nell.” Last year, she appeared in the vampire comedy film The Radleys, directed by Euros Lyn. Ainsworth, also British, provided the voice of Pinocchio in Robert Zemeckis’ live-action film Pinocchio and played Miles in the Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor. He also appears in the Canadian comedy series “Son of a Critch” and appears in an episode of Netflix’s “The Sandman.”
