Warning: Spoilers ahead. If you haven’t watched the ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 premiere, please do not proceed.
HBO isn’t canceling Angus Cloud’s “Euphoria” character just yet.
The Season 3 premiere revealed that Fezco, aka Fez, played by Cloud until his tragic overdose in 2023, is serving a decades-long prison sentence.
During Sunday’s episode, Rue (Zendaya) tries to get her friend Lexi (Maud Apatow) to call her in prison.
Lexi, who struck up a romance with a amiable drug dealer in Season 2, admitted she “feels guilty” for not talking to him, but claims she was busy.
“He misses you,” Lou tells her, assuring her that he has said that about her many times.
Lexi, who is currently working on a show in Hollywood, says, “I don’t know, but my working hours and his working hours don’t really match up, so it’s tough.”
Lou retorted, “Pick up the phone and make a call! You’re not going anywhere. You’re serving 30 years in prison.”
At the end of the first episode, in addition to Cloud’s name, there will be a “memorial” with the names of Eric Dane, who passed away in February at the age of 53 after battling ALS, and executive producer Kevin Turen, who passed away in November 2023 at the age of 44 due to heart complications.
Dane had filmed scenes for the show before his death, but did not appear in the premiere episode.
“Euphoria,” which premiered in 2019, tells the story of Lou, a drug addict, and her high school classmates. Fez is Lou’s drug dealer and often hangs out with his friends.
Season 2 ended with Fez’s arrest after a police raid on his home.
“Losing Angus was really hard on the production team. I loved Angus very deeply,” creator Sam Levinson told Variety during the Season 3 premiere earlier this week.
He also said that he “fought hard” to keep himself “pure,” and that he wanted to “keep him alive” through his story.
Levinson teased, “I can’t wait to see the last few episodes because I think he’s going to be furious with his storyline. I think he’s going to love it.”
The actor passed away on July 31, 2023, at the age of 25, and the cause of death was ruled to be an accidental overdose of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
This show was Cloud’s first role, and he quickly became a fan favorite. He told GQ in 2019 that he was accosted by a member of a casting company while walking in Manhattan. “I was confused and didn’t want to give her my number. I thought it was a scam.”
After Cloud’s death, his family said he was mourning the loss of his father, Connor Hickey, who passed away in May after a short battle with cancer.
“Last week, Angus buried his father and was struggling mightily with this loss. Our only consolation is that he was reunited with his father, his best friend,” his family told the Post in a statement after Angus’ death.
In August 2023, Zendaya posted a tribute on Instagram, writing, “I am so grateful to have known him in this life, to have had the opportunity to call him brother, to see his warm, kind eyes and bright smile, and to hear his infectious laugh.”
She added, “That’s how I want to remember him. For all the endless light, love, and joy he always gave us.”
Apatow paid tribute to Cloud on Instagram at the time, writing, “Angus was the funniest person ever. I’m so excited to see our schedule working together because I knew it was going to be a great day with lots of laughs.”
Another co-star, Sidney Sweeney, also posted on Instagram after his death, calling Cloud “an open soul and the kindest person with the kindest heart.”
“Euphoria” Season 3, which also stars Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schaefer and Alexa Demme, airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
