Farrah Abraham’s daughter Sophia gets her first tattoo.
The 16-year-old showed off her new ink, which features three giant bats on each side of her stomach, in an Instagram video on Wednesday.
The mother-daughter duo, who shot to fame on MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” when Abraham became pregnant with Sophia at the age of 16, first teased their followers by suggesting Sophia might be pregnant.
“We have a surprise for you all,” the text above the video reads, and it begins with a worried girl clutching her stomach.
Then I heard a woman yell, “Oh my god!” Abraham said it out loud.
Sophia then lifted her shirt to reveal her new ink. The words “I got my first tattoo!!”. flashed across the screen.
Abraham leans over to peer at the artwork and smiles, relieved that she won’t be a grandmother at 34.
The video has polarized fans, with some praising the Teen Mom star for letting her daughter express herself freely, while others argue she’s too young for permanent body modification.
One critic commented, “I understand that children are free to do whatever they want and express themselves, but there is always a time for things to be done.”
“Whether your parents want to admit it or not, you’re too young at that age. You need to set the rules…I may be old-fashioned, but that’s how I think.”
Others accused Abraham of being “more of a friend than a mother.”
However, one fan said, “I love how she’s literally the opposite of you and you don’t treat her any differently because of that,” while another fan agreed, saying, “I love Farrah for accepting her daughter exactly the way she wants to be. And I support her 100%.”
Abraham has yet to respond to the criticism, but he previously defended his decision to give Sofia multiple facial piercings for her 14th birthday.
