Fantastic Four: First Steps will be available to stream at home on Disney+ starting November 5th, after grossing $521 million worldwide over the summer.
First Steps, the 37th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was released on July 25th, grossing $117 million at the domestic box office and $218 million worldwide. It was Marvel’s strongest opening weekend in history, and the second-strongest superhero opening this summer after DC Studios’ Superman.
Directed by Matt Shakman, First Steps is Hollywood’s second attempt at rebooting the eponymous superhero quartet this century. Tim Story’s Fantastic Four and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer were distributed by 20th Century Fox in 2005 and 2007, respectively. Fox then rebooted the series with Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four in 2015, and Disney acquired the assets when it acquired the studio in 2019.
Unlike its predecessor, First Steps takes place in a retro-futuristic world that doesn’t shy away from the 1960s eeriness of the original. It’s a bright and optimistic superhero story that focuses on the Fantastic Four as a family, introducing characters at the height of their heroic notoriety rather than centering the film on how they obtained their powers.
The titular superhero family is played by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. John. Wonderful Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Man, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Julia Garner also stars as Silver Surfer, Ralph Ineson as Galactus, and Paul Walter Hauser as Harvey Elder/Mallman.
The film joins other Marvel films on Disney+, with the Fantastic Four returning to screens in Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026.
