The Fantastic Four, unsurprisingly, appear in the fourth Avengers: Doomsday teaser, which was released online after being played before the screening of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
The new trailer starts off on a serious, sombre note, similar to past trailers for Captain America, Thor, and X-Men, but then there’s a humorous moment where the Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) introduces himself to M’Baku (Winston Duke).
Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, who took over the role of Black Panther after Chadwick Boseman’s death in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, returns with a somber voiceover, saying, “I lost everyone who was important to me. A king has a duty to prepare his people for the afterlife. I have a duty to mine.” In addition to losing his brother T’Challa in the previous film, Shuri’s mother, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), also died when Wakanda was attacked by Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and his undersea kingdom, Talokan.
Namor, dressed in a comic-book black suit, and his cousin Namora (Mabel Cadena) appear briefly in the teaser. The Talokans, who were the villains of Wakanda Forever, may join forces with the Wakandans in the fight against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, especially if the fate of the multiverse is at stake. Comic book fans also know that the Fantastic Four’s Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) is often portrayed as having a romantic past with Namor, and that any mutual miscommunication could cause some trouble for her husband, Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal).
Pascal, Kirby, and Joseph Quinn, who plays Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, are not featured in the teaser, but they will be part of the Doomsday cast when it hits theaters on December 18th. Moss-Bucklax Thing is the only member of the Fantastic Four to appear in the teaser, as he introduces himself to M’Baku and concludes the trailer.
“King M’Baku of Wakanda,” he says, apparently confirming that he successfully challenged Shuri for the throne at the end of “Wakanda Forever.”
“Ben Yancey Street between Broome and Grand,” Thing replies.
It’s the first time we’ve met the MCU characters since the Fantastic Four made their 1960s alternate universe debut in last summer’s “First Steps.” The end credits of “Thunderbolts” have previously teased the Fantastic Four’s entry into the MCU, but this time, all of the characters from “Doomsday” will appear.
The cast of “Thunderbolts,” including Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Louis Pullman, return for a major team-up. They will share the screen with “Avengers” stars Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston and Simu Liu. There will also be an X-Men crossover starring Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Channing Tatum, and Rebecca Romijn.
