“The Pit” addresses erectile dysfunction.

In the second episode of Season 2 of HBO Max’s hit medical drama series, a patient (played by Christopher T. Wood) is admitted to the ER complaining of priapism, an erection that lasts more than four hours, after injecting himself with twice the recommended dose of a liquid ED medication. (Injectable drugs are prescribed when oral drugs such as Viagra and Cialis do not work.)

He tells Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball) that he did it because he wanted to get ready to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. Dr. King (Taylor Dearden) and Dr. Santos (Isa Briones) are seen performing a paracentesis, a procedure that draws blood from the penis, using highly realistic prostheses.

“I’m there,” Sepideh Moafi, who plays the role of the attending physician, Dr. Al Hashimi, observing the surgery, said at the Season 2 premiere in Los Angeles earlier this month. “I remember that scene so well. I have nightmares about that scene. When I saw[the prosthetics]in the hair and makeup trailer, I thought, ‘Who’s having fun between takes?'” I was like, “What’s going on?” And I knew right away what it was. ”

Producers shot the scene on a closed set. Supriya Ganesh, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan, said, “I thank my lucky stars every day. I wasn’t in that situation.” “I don’t think I could keep a straight face.”

“The Pit” Season 2 will have 15 episodes and will take place over the July 4th weekend. “We’re going to end up with some even worse stories,” said R. Scott Gemmill, creator and showrunner of “The Pit.” “Some people are pretty mean.”

The show won two Golden Globe Awards on Sunday: Best Television Series (Drama) and Best Male Actor in a Television Drama for Noah Wyle.

“The Pit” has been renewed for a third season. Wiley doesn’t think this season will include any holidays.

“Probably not,” he said. “It may not be that far this time, but 10 months was a long time. I don’t think we need to make that leap next time.”

It was also announced Thursday that the season 2 premiere of “The Pit” drew 5.4 million viewers on its first day of release, a 200% increase from the series premiere in 2025.
