“Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson and his wife Ashley donated a generous $27,000 to a fundraiser for their daughters Billie and Georgia after Eric Dane’s death.
A GoFundMe campaign started by friends of the Dane family had raised $171,555 in contributions from the Levinson family as of Saturday morning.
This fundraiser was established with a goal of $250,000.
On Friday, just one day after Dane’s death, it was reported that a crowdfunding campaign was launched to help Dane’s teenage daughters.
“Following his diagnosis, Eric became a passionate advocate for the (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) ALS community, using his voice and platform to advocate for his fellow patients and promote awareness. Even as his own health deteriorated, he remained deeply committed to helping others facing the same devastating disease,” the campaign description reads.
“His illness progressed much faster than anyone expected, so Eric’s friends came together to create this GoFundMe to support his daughters and their future needs.”
After his death, several of Dane’s former Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy co-stars paid tribute to the actor with touching tributes.
In a statement to Page Six, Levinson said he was “heartbroken” at the loss of a “dear friend.”
“It was an honor to work with him. It was a gift to be his friend,” he continued. “My thoughts and prayers go out to Eric’s family. May his memory be a blessing.”
Dane passed away on Thursday at the age of 53 after a battle with ALS.
“He spent his final days surrounded by his beloved friends, his devoted wife (Rebecca Gayheart), and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia. They were the center of his world,” his family confirmed in a statement to People magazine.
“Throughout his battle with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same battle. He will be deeply missed and will always be remembered with love.”
The family said the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum “loved his fans” and was “forever grateful” for the love and support he has received over the years. They have asked for privacy during these “unlikely times.”
In the new Netflix series Famous Last Words, released on Friday, just hours after Dane’s death was announced, he was able to say his final words to his daughters.
“We tried it. We stumbled sometimes, but we tried it. Overall, it was a lot of fun, right?” he began before sharing one final lesson with his daughters.
“I hope you don’t just listen to me, you listen to me,” he began. “First of all, live in the moment. It’s difficult, but I’ve learned to do it.”
“For years I spent long periods of time mentally wandering, sinking into anxiety and self-pity, shame and doubt,” the “fascinated” graduate continued. “I made decisions and second-guessed myself: ‘I should have done this. I should never have done that.’ No more.”
