Joe vs. Carol creator Etan Frankel has signed a first-look producing deal with Fox Entertainment Studios.
Under the agreement, Frankel, whose credits include “Shameless” and “Friday Night Lights,” will develop and produce scripted series across genres. He will work closely with Fox leadership to “develop strategic scripted projects that align with the studio’s creative priorities, including premium drama, elevated genre storytelling, and distinctive creator-driven series with global appeal,” according to a press release.
“Etan is an extraordinary storyteller with a rare ability to blend emotional depth, keen perspective and commercial appeal,” said Hannah Pillmer, head of scriptwriting at Fox Entertainment Studios. “He has built an impressive body of work across platforms and genres, and his voice, flair and leadership make him the ideal partner as we continue to expand our slate of premium scripts.”
Frankel added, “We’re excited to partner with Fox Entertainment Studios at a time when Fox Entertainment Studios is clearly investing in bold, creator-driven storytelling. Hannah and her team have built an environment that champions ambition, collaboration, and originality, and we’re excited to develop meaningful and resonant series together.”
Frankel is currently developing the Millie Bobby Brown vehicle “Prism” for Netflix, where he will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Under a previous general agreement with Universal Content Productions, Frankel produced the scripted Tiger King-related Peacock miniseries Joe vs. Carol, starring Kate McKinnon as Big Cat Rescue founder Carole Baskin and John Cameron Mitchell as Joe Exotic.
Prior to that, Frankel served as showrunner and executive producer on Sorry for Your Loss and wrote for seven seasons on EPs Get Shorty, Animal Kingdom, and Shameless.
Mr. Frankel is repped by CAA, Literate and Gendler Kelly.
