Eric Dane advocated for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as his progression of symptoms was fully shown in the campaign video.
After the “Euphoria” actor missed the planned reunion of “Grey’s Anatomy” on Sunday 2025, he appeared in the I AM ALS organization’s campaign video to promote accelerated research into neurodegenerative diseases.
“I’m Eric. I’m an actor, father and now I live with ALS,” Dane, 52, said in a clip shared on Instagram on Monday.
“For over a century, ALS has been incurable and we have embraced the status quo. We need the fastest path to treatment. That’s why I’m partnering with ALS to seek progress. The goal is $1 billion over the next three years.”
“Together, we will update the groundbreaking laws of ALS and receive promising treatments for thousands of patients like me. And finally, we will push towards the end of this disease.”
Dance concluded his speech by urging his followers to visit the I Am ALS website and to donate to the cause.
“Participate and take part in promoting progress,” he said.
During the clip, Dane spoke slowly, occasionally lurping his words. His arms also seemed uncontrollably convulsive at times.
Fans visited the video’s comments section to discuss the notable changes in the “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” star.
“The progress was very fast,” one user wrote.
“I don’t know much about ALS. Surely someone can tell me if the difference in Eric’s speech is part of the diagnosis? It sounds like he’s complaining as if he’s having a hard time speaking.
Dane announced in April that he was diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects neurons in the brain and spinal cord that control spontaneous muscles. (Dane is currently dating filmmaker Janelle Shirtcliffe.)
In June, the two fathers were opened up about the heartbreaking progression of his illness, revealing that he has “one functional arm.”
“My dominant side, my left side is working,” he told Diane Sawyer in “Good Morning America” at the time. “My right side is completely stopped working.”
Dane said she had only had “a few more months” before her left arm and hand were thrown away, and she could lose function on her feet.
On Sunday, the “The Last Ship” alum was to win the Emmys stage alongside “Grey’s Anatomy” co-star Jesse Williams.
However, the 44-year-old actor, Cabin in the Forest, has given him an outstanding directorial award for the drama series alone.
