Eric Dane returns to television after being diagnosed with ALS.
The Countdown star has continued to appear on screen since going public with his health issues earlier this year, but his role in Brilliant Minds marks the first project he has filmed since his diagnosis.
According to People, the 53-year-old actor will appear on Monday night’s NBC show as a firefighter named Matthew who struggles to tell his family about his ALS.
The outlet’s sneak peek took place in a hospital waiting room alongside Zachary Quinto, who plays Dr. Oliver Wolf.
When Dane’s character tells the doctor, “I’m always happy to see you,” Quint called him “the Bronx generation’s favorite silver fox.”
In this scene, Dane was wearing a teal football jersey and sitting in a chair.
In addition to chatting with Quinto, the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum joked with nurse Nico Silva, played by Al Calderon, about a fellow firefighter who ghosted the nurse.
The clip ended with Quint “taking Dane for[his]monthly checkup.”
Dane made headlines with his diagnosis in April, a month after calling off his divorce from estranged wife Rebecca Gayheart.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he said in a statement at the time. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as I navigate this next chapter.”
In his first interview two months later, he gave “Good Morning America” viewers a “somber” update about her “right side…not fully functioning.”
The “Euphoria” star explained, “My one arm is working. My left hand, which is my dominant arm, is working.”
Gayheart last week revealed his “very complicated” relationship with his ex-partner, with whom he co-parents daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13.
“I just want to make sure I give them the opportunity to spend time with him so they never look back (and wish they had done more),” the actress told Broad Idea listeners on Nov. 17.
She and Dane married in October 2004 and separated in 2018 after 13 years of marriage.
Since their split, Dane has been out with the likes of actress Priya Jayne and director Janelle Shirtcliff, but Gayheart said on his podcast that he’s been “too thin” so far.
