Eric Dane canceled his appearance at an ALS event hours before Saturday due to complications with his illness.
The actor, who has been open about his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), was scheduled to attend the ALS Network’s Champions for Cure and Care Gala to accept the Advocate of the Year award, but was unable to attend due to health issues.
Dane canceled “because of the physical realities of ALS” and was “not well enough to attend,” the ALS Network confirmed to People.
“We are deeply grateful for his courage, advocacy and continued commitment to the ALS community, and tonight we honor him with our deepest respect and support,” the organization said in a statement.
Representatives for Dane and ALS Network did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
The 53-year-old “Grey’s Anatomy” alum revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025.
Back in September, he was spotted in a wheelchair at an airport in Washington, D.C., and shared a touching message to his fans who were worried about him.
“Stay true to your beliefs,” Dane says in a stammering voice, in footage obtained by the Daily Mail.
The “Euphoria” star also responded, “Thank you, brother,” when told the country wished him well.
Earlier that month, Dane appeared in a campaign video for I AM ALS, an organization that promotes accelerated research into neurodegenerative diseases.
During the clip, he spoke slowly and had slurred speech at times. His arms seemed to twitch uncontrollably at times.
Despite the progress of his illness, the father of two said he has no plans to quit acting.
During a panel discussion held by I Am ALS and Brilliant Minds last month, he said he would take on “ALS-centric” roles in the future because he is “very limited in what he can do physically.”
“I still have a brain and I can still do speeches,” he said, adding, “I’m willing to do anything.”
