Netflix has released the trailer for the customs enforcement thriller ‘Tuskali: Smugglers’ Web’, starring Emraan Hashmi as the leader of an honest task force fighting a global smuggling empire.
Created by Neeraj Pandey, the series centers around a specialized customs unit at the Mumbai International Airport tasked with dismantling international smuggling networks. The team, led by Arjun Meena (Hashmi), includes police officers Mithali Kamath (Amruta Khanvilkar), Ravinder Gujjar (Nandish Singh Sandhu) and Prakash Kumar (Anurag Sinha). They confront the kingpin Bada Chaudhary (Sharad Kelkar) and his syndicate, who operate across the smuggling corridors that span Ardera, Addis Ababa, Milan, and Bangkok.
The series explores the workings of international smuggling operations, from encrypted routes to fake manifests, as customs agents rely on their intelligence and instincts to stay ahead of criminal networks.
“Customs is a world I have always wanted to explore,” says Pandey. “I was drawn to the idea of stepping into a customs office where operations are carried out quietly, precisely and under constant pressure. It was incredibly exciting to bring this vision to life, especially with a cast and crew who were completely invested from the ground up and understood the rhythm and realism that the story required.”
The project marks a new collaboration between Pandey and Netflix after the series ‘Khakee’. “Following the success of the ‘Khakee’ series, we are excited to collaborate with Netflix again,” said Pandey. “What we have created together is a very unique crime thriller rooted in authenticity, and we hope to live up to the expectations of our audiences, whose encouragement has always kept us going.”
This series will be Hashmi’s first collaboration with Pandey. “What struck me about this series was its grounded and intelligent take on heroism – stories driven by quiet courage, discipline and duty rather than loud bravado,” the actor said. “The entire cast and crew have worked hard to bring this world to life, and we look forward to audiences finally experiencing it on screen.”
“Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web” is produced by Friday Storytellers, the digital content arm of Friday Filmworks, founded by Pandey and producer Shital Bhatia.
All episodes will be released on Netflix on January 14th.
