The Academy loves Emma Stone.

The 37-year-old actress broke Meryl Streep’s Oscar record after the 2026 nominations were announced Thursday.

Stone was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos’s “Bugonia.” She is also nominated for Best Picture as a producer for this film.

With these two nominations, Stone, 37, now becomes the youngest woman in Oscar history to reach seven total nominations.

Streep, 76, had held the record since 1988, when she earned her seventh Oscar nomination at age 38.

But Streep remains the most nominated actor in Oscar history, with 21 total nominations. She has won three times. She won Best Supporting Actress in 1980 for “Kramer vs. Kramer”, Best Actress in 1983 for “Sophie’s Choice”, and Best Actress in 2012 for “The Iron Lady”.

Stone’s previous Oscar nominations include Best Supporting Actress in 2015 for Birdman and Best Supporting Actress in 2019 for The Favourite. When Poor Things was nominated for Best Picture in 2024, she was recommended by the producers.

Her two wins were Best Actress in a Leading Role for La La Land in 2017 and Best Actress in a Leading Role for Poor Things in 2024.

Stone responded to his “Bugonia” candidacy in a statement to the Post on Thursday.

“Thank you to the Academy for these nominations and to everyone who poured their hearts and souls into Bugonia,” she said. “None of this would be possible without our director, Yorgos, and we are forever grateful for our creative partnership and friendship.”

“I share this recognition with the amazing Jesse Plemons and our amazing cast, crew, and producers,” Stone continued. “We are truly honored and deeply grateful to be able to join all of these amazing candidates.”

Bugonia was nominated in four categories: Best Actress, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture. Plemons, 37, lost out on Best Supporting Actor despite winning this year’s Best Actor and Golden Globe Awards.

This black comedy film is a remake of a 2003 Korean film. The film tells the story of two young men who kidnap a powerful CEO who they suspect is an alien who is secretly trying to destroy Earth.

Stone plays the CEO and co-stars with Plemmons, Aidan Delvis, Stavros Halkias and Alicia Silverstone.

The “Easy A” actress shaved her head for “Bugonia.”

“From the moment I read the script, I knew I had to shave my head because there was no other option,” Stone said at a Q&A for the film in New York City in September 2025, calling the decision “one of the greatest experiences of my life.”

“It’s just hair,” she pointed out. “I thought it was longer, but it’s just the hair!”

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be broadcast on ABC on Sunday, March 15th at 7pm.
