Country singer Elle King reveals what happened before and after his infamous viral performance at Grand Ole Opry.
The 36-year-old King told Bunny XO during her recent appearance on the Dum Blonde Podcast that at the time she was on stage on January 19, 2024, experiencing “dark circumstances” to honor Dolly Parton’s 78th birthday.
“I played two shows that day. I played two f—– shows. The first show was great. It was perfect,” the “High Road” singer said. “But I wasn’t eating… I wasn’t sleeping for days. I had such a bad anxiety.”

She explained that by the time she was walking on stage, “I had gotten too many shots,” and that she jumped into the bar before “a lot of people were celebrating.”
“I took one shot of tequila while I was drinking a martini,” the “Ex’s & Oh’s” singer explained, adding that she was “the smallest thing I’ve ever had.” She then hints at a blackout.
On stage, he told the audience he was an “F—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
“I don’t want to get in my car and get into the house and cry like that. I don’t want to wake up feeling that way again. I don’t want to feel the shame,” she said. King then shared that Parton called her.
“She called me to make me feel better,” King said. Parton added that it was “evidence of an angel.”
Parton, now 79, spoke publicly after the performance, sharing that he hoped people would not have grievances against the king. “El is a really great artist,” Parton told Extra. “She’s a great girl and has been going through a lot of difficult things recently.”
“She was a little too much to drink, so let’s forgive and forget about it and move on.

After her appearance, Grand Ole Opry apologized for her performance, but as the king told Bunny, “I spoke to everyone at Opry and they said I wasn’t banned.”
