EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rey Ami will end their first awards season with one final milestone: their first Academy Awards. KPop Demon Hunters’ HUNTR/X sings in a glamorous black and gold look, a cheeky (and chic) homage to their song “Golden.”
EJAE (who plays Rumi) wore a sparkling strapless Dior dress, while Nuna (Mira) opted for a custom Thom Browne ball gown and Ami (Zoe) opted for a shimmering minidress with a long embroidered shrug.
KPop Demon Hunters is nominated tonight in two categories: Best Original Song for “Golden” (co-written by EJAE and performed by the trio) and Best Animated Feature. The three stars will also perform “Golden” during the ceremony.
In February, EJAE spoke on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast about how Ami and Nouna were chosen for the project.
EJAE was already part of the songwriting team and I knew they were perfect the moment I met them. “I’m a huge fan of their music, so I thought, ‘Why not?'” she recalls. “And when I saw them, I thought, ‘Oh, this makes so much sense.’ I met Audrey when she was like 14 and I was a baby as far as songwriting, right around the time I wrote[Red Velvet’s]’Psycho,’ so that was pretty hilarious. Audrey actually knew Andrew (Choi, Jinwoo’s voice and songwriter) – Andrew was like a connector, and Audrey brought her in, and she was interested in songwriting. She looked like a little girl, wearing a white T-shirt and a pink backpack, looking very innocent and saying “Hello!” So we decided, “Let’s write a gospel song.” We literally wrote a gospel song together. I still have it. I’ll show you someday. But yeah, he’s a great singer. And fast forward to when I met her in the studio and she was like a cool girl, grown up, tall, cool baggy jeans, super stylish, and I was like, “Hey, honey.” I’m very happy to meet you. what happened? ”As expected of Mira! She is very cool and although she looks scary, she is very soft and very caring. But I thought, “Oh my god, this is Mila!”
“Then, the next day or a few days later, I met Ray Ami,” EJAE continued. “Ian[Eisendrath, the film’s executive music producer]just watched her and I remember Ray just walking away. Ian was directing us vocally, so he’s always talking, but he’s not. I didn’t have to, because the girl was directing herself. Every time she did something wrong, she’s like, “Bitch, get it together! What are you doing? You look like shit.” It’s not a joke. She screamed into the microphone and then came out and said, ‘EJAE and me? ‘It was like, Oh my God! It’s very cute. And she is so small. I thought, “Oh my god, that’s Zoe!” It was really crazy how it all happened. ”
