Duchess Meghan has been dubbed ‘Salmonella Sussex’ after sharing a video of herself cooking a Thanksgiving turkey with major hygiene issues.
Last Thursday, ahead of the holiday, the Duchess of Sussex shared a clip on her Instagram Stories of herself mixing seasoning in a bowl and rubbing it onto a raw bird.
Markle captioned the clip, which was set to Bob Dylan’s “Turkey Chase,” saying, “Let the ‘game’ begin.” The mother of two also added a turkey emoji.
“Get it? #momjokes,” she wrote.
But some eagle-eyed fans noticed that Markle, 44, was still wearing a gold bracelet and ring while preparing a raw turkey without gloves.
“Her kitchen hygiene is abysmal. The ‘domestic’ goddess is clueless. The more she pretends to be a cook, the more she realizes she’s a fake. Her jewelry rubs against her flesh, her hair falls out, and her dirty feet caress some poor dead bird,” one user wrote in a Reddit thread titled “Salmonella Sussex.”
“I don’t wear jewelry when I put on makeup and I take it off when I cook. Jewelry is a known vector of infection,” added another.
“I’ve cooked many turkeys, but I’ve never touched one like this. She’s an idiot who makes a lot of noise in the kitchen,” a third netizen commented.
“Sir, she obviously knows absolutely nothing about cooking or how to work in a kitchen. For the safety of humanity, please keep her out of the kitchen,” a fourth person added.
“Aside from the hair, jewelry, and bare hands all over that turkey, it’s amazing how she sometimes laid her forearm over the turkey’s body. She could have been naked rubbing that damn thing all over herself. How stupid! I’m so glad she’s called that,” a fifth Reddit user said.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, raw turkey can carry bacteria such as Salmonella, Clostridium perfringens, and Campylobacter, and its juices can contaminate anything it touches.
Page Six reached out to Markle’s representatives for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
On Thanksgiving Day, Ms Markle spoke about how she and her family, including husband Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, spent their annual holiday.
The As Ever founder revealed via newsletter that he was cooking for friends at the Duke of Sussex’s $14 million mansion in Montecito, California.
“Please know, every time I look around my house and see my husband, children, family, and dear friends (and while also juggling turkey timing and the love and overlap that comes with hostessing), I feel a sense of gratitude,” she wrote.
Markle continued, “I wish you a full Thanksgiving in both your heart and your stomach.”
The family of four also recently gave back to the community by volunteering with Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles to “prepare and package meals for local residents facing food insecurity.”
