Donatella Versace paid tribute to the late Valentino Garavani in a bold way.
The Italian fashion designer was spotted in Rome paying tribute to her late colleague. Versace paid homage to Valentino by choosing a screaming color with a bright red suit.
She added platform heels in the same rich color and hid her eyes with oversized black sunglasses.
Versace teamed up with former Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, who wore all black and sneakers.
Of course, this monochromatic look pays homage to Valentino’s signature color, certified by Pantone as “Valentino Red.” After debuting a poppy dress in his first show in 1959, he became famous for the shade, which he repeated over and over again.
As the story goes, Garavani was initially inspired as a child by the costumes of Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen and the tone that resonated throughout the audience.
Immediately captivated, he used the color frequently throughout his collection, and it quickly became synonymous with the brand.
Garavani is currently resting and his funeral will be held tomorrow.
Garavani died at his home on Monday. He was 93 years old. Since the news broke, there has been an outpouring of love and memories from celebrities and designers alike.
Versace herself wrote on the same day: “Today we lost a true maestro whose art will forever be remembered. My thoughts go to Giancarlo, who never left his side for many years,” adding, “He will never be forgotten 🕊️.”
