Doja Cat defends Chapel Roan in a TikTok video, revealing that she is “battling” with borderline personality disorder (BPD).
“I learned from a young age to pretend like I like it, to pretend to be happy, to pretend that I don’t like what I’m doing, to pretend like everything is okay,” Doja Cat said in a TikTok video on Friday.
“I’ll get through it. And it happened to me, too, and I think that’s true of people all the time. I’m battling borderline personality disorder right now.”
The ‘Paint the Town Red’ hitmaker, 30, told her followers that she has been in therapy for “years now” and is seeking help for a “suffering condition” she is dealing with “probably forever”.
“I feel very safe and very proud of myself. I’ve made it this far,” she said, adding that she still makes “mistakes.”
“But it’s like an eight-year process of healing, treating, healing to cure the disease,” she explained.
According to the Mayo Clinic, borderline personality disorder is “a mental health condition that affects how people feel about themselves and others, making it difficult to live daily lives.”
“This includes unstable and intense relationship patterns, as well as impulsivity and an unhealthy view of oneself. Impulsivity involves having extreme emotions and acting out or doing things without thinking about it first.”
Elsewhere in the TikTok video, Doja showed her support for Roan, praising her ability to “be comfortable, protective and honest in public,” who has come under scrutiny for recent run-ins with paparazzi.
“I had to learn how to be honest,” Doja Cat told her followers.
“I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I’ve been lying to myself for years, most of my life, and now I could see her sitting there. I love it.”
“I love that she can do it without hurting people,” she added. “She has never hurt anyone by being herself, and it shows me that I can do the same.”
