At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Doechii gave a moving acceptance speech about the honor of winning in a category that has only been won by two women since its inception.
“This category was introduced in 1989 and we had two women win it: Lauryn Hill, and we had three women win it: Lauryn Hill, Cardi B and Doechy,” Starr said. “I put my heart and soul into this mixtape. I laid my life bare. I went through a lot. I dedicated myself to sobriety, and God rewarded me and showed me how good it could be. I have to thank God.”
Fans are increasingly interested in Doech’s romantic life as her stardom is on the rise. While Doechii is open and vulnerable in his music, he keeps many specific details of his personal life private to protect his partner’s identity. However, she did share a little about her sexuality and dating experience.
She gained attention in February when she updated her Instagram profile and revealed that she is a lesbian.

Does Doechii have a girlfriend?
yes. Doech has not revealed who his girlfriend is, but in an October 2024 interview with Gay Times he said, “I think I’ve always been gay. I’ve always known I was gay. Now I’m bisexual. I’m with women now, and I’ve always known I loved women. I’ve always known that since I was little.”
She added that because she grew up in Florida, she didn’t feel safe revealing her interest in women.
“There’s a lot of racism and homophobia, so it’s very difficult, very difficult,” Doech explained. “I was aware, but I didn’t really feel comfortable until I started surrounding myself with more gay friends. I also grew up in the church, and not all religions condemn being gay, but the religion I belonged to and my environment didn’t accept gay people.”
Doech went on to attend performing arts school, where she was able to meet more queer people and explore her own identity, but it took time. The rapper explained, “I definitely never felt like I could be proud.”
“I don’t talk about it, but if someone asks, I won’t lie,” she said. “So, it wasn’t a secret, but I definitely wasn’t able to walk as proudly as I wanted to, which was frustrating.”
In a December 2024 interview with The Breakfast Club, Doechii was asked if he had a girlfriend, to which he replied, “Yeah, that’s great.”
She was then asked, “Does she trust you?”
“Oh my god, damn it! Yeah, I hope so!” Hoshi replied with a laugh. “Yes, that’s right.”
Who else has Doechii dated?
Doechii has mentioned other relationships in some of her music, including those with men. In the same interview with The Breakfast Club, Doechii talked about his song “Denial Is a River.” The song is a quote from Wendy Williams about people denying their husbands are gay. The song references a past relationship in which her ex-boyfriend cheated on her with another man.
During the conversation, host Divine Charlemagne seemed to wrestle with the notion that Doechii was fine with her ex-boyfriend being bisexual. She had issues with him lying and cheating.
“I mean, that[his sexuality]was never the issue. I think the issue was that you betrayed me. Also, you could have told me up front what your style was. I’m bisexual, which is great. I’ve dated bisexual men and it’s no problem,” she said. “Tell me up front what it is and I’ll accept you as you are. It doesn’t really matter.”
When co-host DJ Envy asked for further explanation, Doechii replied, “How can I be bisexual and date other bisexual people? Why because I’m a man? Who cares?”
Both hosts claimed that men’s bisexuality is different from women’s, but she responded, “I think sexuality is fluid and it doesn’t bother me at all.”
