John Oliver dismantled Jimmy Kimmel’s indefinite suspension on ABC for most of the “Last This Week” episode of September 21. At the end of his segment, Oliver, who analyzed last week’s development and the development of the corporate players involved, took advantage of the opportunity to speak in person with Disney CEO Bob Iger.
“Hello, Bob. We haven’t seen him, but I probably know me as America’s third favorite, Thez,” Oliver said, recalling the role of his “Lion King” voice. “By the way, congratulations on the role to recast. It was fun to learn after the facts. Anyway, one day, the history of the time we live is written. When that’s the case, I don’t know that this administration will be at its worst. It’s like a tough sales job and can be a bit of a dislike for risk-averse business leaders.
“But I’ll say this,” he continued. “If we’ve learned anything else from the second term of this administration so far, if you don’t think we have, giving the bully your lunch doesn’t erase him. It makes him starve every time. They literally don’t say it. (FCC Chair Brendan) suggested that “view” might look like this. At some point, I need to draw it. It’s not “whatever you say.” But instead, the only phrase that can truly leave a weak bully is, “Fuck you.”
