Disney+ has joined The Last Man on Earth, a French remake of Will Forte’s hit 2015 sci-fi comedy series starring French star Artus.
The original series “The Last Man on Earth,” created by Forte of “Saturday Night Live” fame, is produced by 20th Century Studios and will premiere on Disney+ this year. The show debuted Thursday night at the Disney+ showcase in Paris.
In the remake, a catastrophe led to the extinction of humanity. “After traveling across the country, Adam must face the facts. He is the last man on Earth, free from everything and enjoying the benefits of solitude…but remains hopelessly alone. But he still holds out hope that there is another survivor. And perhaps a female survivor, too,” the synopsis reads.
The original series, also known as “The Last Man on Earth,” aired on Fox in 2015 and 2018 and was nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards. Forte played the lead role in the show, opposite Kristen Schaal and January Jones, alongside Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig.
Artus is a famous French stand-up comedian who made his feature directorial debut with “A Little Something Extra,” which topped the French box office in 2024 and grossed over $74 million in France. This modestly budgeted comedy featured an ensemble cast of young non-professionals with various types of disabilities.
Disney+ didn’t reveal many details about the new show, but it will likely have an international setting and cast. The streamer announced a flurry of other series and features at its Paris showcase.
