“Marshmallow,” one of last year’s indie horror success stories, returns to the woods with a new sequel.
Hemlock Circle Productions has announced that director Daniel DelPurgatorio, screenwriter Andy Greskowiak, and cast members Ku Lawrence, Kai Cech, Dylan Friedman, and Max Maras will return to appear in the next chapter of “Marshmallow.” The release date has not yet been decided.
According to the official cryptic logline, “Set years after the events of the first film, the sequel explores the lingering damage left not only on the world, but also on those who survived. The story expands on the mythology as it plunges into much darker territory, erasing any remaining sense of safety as its eventual consequences arrive.”
“‘Marshmallow’ opens the door to a world that still has a lot of dark parts to explore,” Todd Friedman, co-founder of Hemlock Circle Productions, said in a press release. “We have always believed there was more story to tell, and the response from our viewers further confirms that.”
The original movie was about a group of kids coming face to face with a mysterious figure stalking them at a summer camp, until a major plot twist occurred, which I won’t spoil here. It’s currently streaming on Paramount+, Amazon, and Shudder.
DelPurgatorio is represented by Gersh’s Abram Naribotsky and Sean Barclay.
Hemlock Circle Productions started in 2019 as an “independently owned film, television and digital media company focused on producing creatively, smartly and efficiently budgeted for audiences around the world,” according to a press release.
