Diane Keaton appeared happy, content, and healthy in her last social media post before her death.
In a joint post with retailer Hudson Grace shared to Instagram on April 11, the Father of the Bride star beamed while cuddling up with his dog Reggie.
In another shot, the iconic actress, known for her eclectic sense of style, was seen lovingly petting an animal while showing off her black manicure.
“Prove that our pets have great taste too! Happy National Pet Day from HG and @diane_keaton 🖤🐾,” they captioned the sweet post.
People confirmed Saturday that the legendary “Godfather” actress has died in California at the age of 79.
Her representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment on the sudden news, but a family spokesperson told People that her “loved ones have requested privacy.”
Amid the news, fans flooded her last post with messages of sadness. One follower wrote, “Rest in peace Diane. My condolences to you and your loved ones,” while another commented, “You were a legend 💔.”
“One of the greatest actresses of our generation, rest in peace!!🙏🏻🕊️,” chimed in another, while another added: “I wasn’t prepared for this forever living legend to disappear so quickly.”
Keaton, who famously won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1977 for her role in Annie Hall, took to social media in January to advocate for those who lost their jobs in the Los Angeles Palisades fire.
“Let’s help those most in need in our City of Angels!” she wrote at the time, adding a link to a GoFundMe to directly support domestic workers during the fires.
Prior to that, the “First Wives Club” actress had shared several holiday-themed posts, including the first performance of a Christmas song and an accompanying music video.
“This song and video are a celebration of love, memories, and the beauty of keeping those we care about in our hearts, especially at this time of year,” she wrote about the song’s video for “First Christmas” in December 2024.
She added, “I hope it brings you comfort and reminds you of what matters most. ♥️.”
Keaton never married, but had high-profile romances with Al Pacino and Warren Beatty, and became a mother in 1996 and 2001, respectively. She adopted daughter Dexter, now 29, and son Duke, now 25.
“Becoming a mother wasn’t an irresistible urge, but more like an idea I had been thinking about for a long time, so I took the plunge,” she told Women’s Home Journal in 2008, explaining how she became a single mom in her 50s.
