Diane Keaton’s style legacy was celebrated on the Vogue World: Hollywood runway just two weeks after her death at the age of 79.
The show, held at L.A.’s famed Paramount Pictures Studios on October 26, paid a heartfelt homage to Keaton’s unmistakable style, celebrating the icon who reinvented Hollywood fashion with Annie Hall-inspired suits, ties and wide-brimmed hats.
Model Betsy Gaghan walked the runway channeling Keaton’s Annie Hall character wearing Ralph Lauren’s recreation of the iconic costume originally designed by Ruth Morley.
In Keaton’s 2024 book Fashion First, designer Ralph Lauren clarified that although Keaton wore some of his creations in Annie Hall, the styling was all her own, saying, “It’s often said that he dressed Diane for her Oscar-winning role in Annie Hall, but that’s not true. Annie’s style was Diane’s style.”

Keaton’s androgynous wardrobe choices in Wood Allen’s 1977 film Annie Hall, for which she won an Oscar for Best Actress, became highly relevant in fashion and inspired generations of women. Her clothes changed mainstream fashion in the 1970s, sending the message that femininity didn’t have to look a certain way to be powerful. Rooted in self-expression rather than trends, her own style has become a template for countless fashion fans, demonstrating that authenticity is the ultimate accessory.
In an interview with PEOPLE published a year before her death, Starr said it was her mother who set her on a path of self-expression through shopping trips to Goodwill. Looking back, she said, “She was my biggest supporter and an outlet for my creativity. In later years, my inspiration came from hours of cutting and pasting through magazines such as Vogue.”
After her death, countless colleagues and Hollywood friends shared memories and paid moving tributes. Among them: “Diane always marched to the beat of her own drum. The way she lived her life, the way she saw the world, and the way she made us all feel. She was authentic, unique, and full of heart. She was always herself and one of a kind.”
On October 11, PEOPLE first reported that Keaton had died in California at the age of 79.
In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, the Oscar-winning actress’ family confirmed that she died of pneumonia and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.
“The Keaton family is extremely grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support we have received over the past few days on behalf of our beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11th,” the statement said.
The actress’ family went on to talk about her passion: “She loved animals and was a staunch supporter of the homeless community, so donating to a local food bank or animal shelter in her memory would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.”
At the time of his death, a source told PEOPLE that Keaton was surrounded by his “closest family.”
