New details have emerged regarding the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of country star Brett James, his wife, and his stepdaughter last month.
The “Jesus Take the Wheel” singer, who was piloting a single-engine, four-seater aircraft, “requested a visual approach” to land on the runway at Macon County Airport in Franklin, North Carolina, before the crash, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) shared in a new report obtained by Page Six.
According to the report, James attempted to complete a turn before losing control of his Cirrus SR22T.
James then approached the airport at approximately 2:48 ET, last reporting that he was at an altitude of 6,800 feet with the intention of “doing a 360-degree turn and landing” on the runway.
After that, no other signals from James were received by air traffic controllers.
The record producer, 57, his wife Melody Carroll, 59, and their daughter Meryl Wilson, 28, all died in the accident.
The NTSB reported that there were no signs of engine failure on the plane.
As Page Six previously reported, the plane was captured on video descending near Iotola Valley Elementary School in Franklin on September 18th.
The day before the fatal crash, Carroll had just written a touching birthday tribute to Wilson on social media.
“Happy birthday my love!! I’m so happy to be your mom! You are the most beautiful and amazing human being inside and out!” she captioned the post.
“I am humbled and grateful every day for your glorious presence in my life! God is already using you for Your Kingdom in so many ways and there are so many more to come! Words cannot express what a gift you are to me and everyone who knows you ❤️😘.”
On her page, Wilson celebrated another year around the sun and shared details about her sobriety journey.
“28 years old. ✨ 142 days sober. ✨ So happy to be here 🤍✨,” she captioned the post.
James is survived by four adult children from his first wife, Sandra Cornelius Little;
This country musician has written more than 20 No. 1 songs and won a Grammy Award in 2007.
He also worked with several A-list stars over the years, including Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Martina McBride.
