‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’ has been officially renewed for season 2 on Netflix.
The news was announced the day after the series premiered on October 14th. Variety first reported that a Splinter Cell animated series was in the works in 2020, when it was reported that Netflix had ordered two seasons of the show.
The animated series, based on the “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell” video game series, stars Liev Schreiber as Sam Fisher and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Zinnia McKenna. Additional voice cast includes Janet Varney, Helen Hong, Kari Wahlgren, Joel Ouellette, Aleks Le, Kif Vandenheuvel, Bella Dayne, and Navid Negahban.
The official logline for the series reads, “When an injured young operative calls for help, legendary agent Sam Fisher is drawn back to the scene.”
Derek Kolstad, best known for his work on the John Wick series, developed the series for television and serves as executive producer. Directed by Guillaume Douce and co-directed by Félicien Colmet-Dage. Hélène Juguet, Hugo Levon and Gerard Guillemot serve as executive producers for Ubisoft Film & Television. Animation provided by Sun Creature and Fost.
The first Splinter Cell game was released in 2002 to near-universal acclaim from critics and massive sales. The game follows former U.S. Navy SEAL Fisher as he is recruited by the NSA to work in a mysterious third-tier division within the organization. The game sees Fischer engage in a number of dark ops missions using stealth and military tactics. The game spawned six sequels and a series of novels.
