Todd Meadows’ family is filing a lawsuit following the “Deadliest Catch” star’s death in February, according to a new report.
According to TMZ, the deceased deckhand’s loved ones plan to file a wrongful death lawsuit, but it remains unclear who will be named as the defendant.
The media has obtained legal documents indicating the family’s intention to begin probate on Meadows’ estate, which will begin the process of administering Meadows’ affairs and transferring ownership of his assets.
Meadows died on February 25 after falling off a crab fishing boat in the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska.
The reality star, who was filming the Discovery Channel series at the time, was inside a shell trap sorting out crabs when the trap went “over the rails” and into the water, cast member Trey John Green III relayed.
Meadows’ body was recovered 10 minutes later, but was unresponsive at that time.
Fellow crew members attempted first aid, but he was unresponsive.
The Coast Guard is still investigating Meadow’s death.
The cause of death was “drowning due to possible hypothermia” and “submersion in cold water.”
Meadows has three young sons with partner Kennady Harvey.
His sister Mackenzie Meadows told Us Weekly the following month that her brother would live on “because of his sons.”
“My sons are going to see him through pictures. No words can even begin to describe the pain we are going through and will continue to go through,” she said on March 4.
As for her mother, Angela Meadows on the same day implored the producers of “Deadliest Catch” not to “air anything” or “make money” from the tragedy.
“I want his memories to be good ones,” she told TMZ, noting that Todd died doing what he loved.
“We don’t want to put the blame on anyone, but someone has to be held accountable. We will bring justice to Todd.”
