David Cross recently retracted a fellow comic that performs the Starry Riad Comedy Festival, including big names such as Dave Chapelle, Louis CK, Bill Barr, Kevin Hart and Whitney Cummings, but Pete Davidson defended the move.
Last week, Cross posted on his site about the Saudi Arabian Fest, which has been billed as the “world’s largest comedy festival.”
He said, “These are some of my heroes! Looking now, some of you have no faith in losing, as you have no hold back anything, but my god, Dave and Louie and Bill, and Jim (Kear)?
“All your complaints about ‘culture cancellation’ and ‘free speech’ and everything’s over. You can never talk about it again. Now I’ve seen the contracts you had to sign.
“You are literally playing to be the most oppressive regime on the planet… This is truly the definition of “blood money”… your hypocrisy never gets noticed. ”
Davidson’s father, New York firefighter Scott Davidson, was killed in the 2001 World Trade Center attack.
But when he appeared on Theo Fon’s podcast on September 23rd, when Fon asked about the backlash (but before Cross was off), I heard Davidson, “I think all of these people are in bed with it.” I just know, I get the routing, then I look at the numbers and say “I go” (probably means the size of the check).
He said, “Just because my dad passed away on 9/11, I’ve got a little flak.
Podcaster Mark Maron said of the fest, “I mean, how do you promote it? You’re from the people who brought 9/11. Two weeks of laughter in the desert, don’t miss it!”
