Following Brooklyn Beckham’s bombshell comments, his parents David and Victoria Beckham are “devastated, concerned and worried” and fearful of the control his wife’s family believes they have over him, reports Page Six.
The 26-year-old has signed an ironclad prenuptial agreement ahead of their 2022 wedding, meaning he will get “absolutely nothing” from his wife Nicola Peltz, 31, a billionaire heiress, in the event of a break-up, sources have confirmed.
The purchase price for the $16 million Beverly Hills home was paid for from a trust fund set up by Nicola’s investor father, Nelson Peltz, worth an estimated $1.2 billion, meaning Brooklyn won’t be entitled to any part of the property.
“Brooklyn has no right to Nicola’s assets,” a Hollywood source familiar with the matter told Page Six. “So the more he moves away from his family, where will he be left after parting?
“At this point, the Pelzes are in charge,” a Hollywood source claimed, “and there is a devastated family worried about their son, brother and grandchild.”
But on Wednesday, two days after Brooklyn made the bombshell announcement that she wanted nothing to do with her family, the young couple appeared to be closer than ever when paparazzi caught them walking their dog at dusk in Malibu, California.
“Brooklyn is not worried about anything,” said a source familiar with the situation. “The Pelzes have treated him like their own son.”
The passionate entrepreneur slammed his parents, ex-footballer David, 50, and Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer Victoria, 51, in a stunning six-page rant on Instagram, claiming he didn’t want to reconcile after a year of separation and accusing them of “constantly belittling” his wife.
It’s been a tumultuous week for the family, with Brooklyn accusing her mother of dancing “inappropriately” with her son at her own wedding and Nicola accusing her mother of struggling to find a new wedding dress designer at the “eleventh hour”.
But as the problems begin to resolve, questions remain. What’s going on now with the scion of one of the world’s most tabloid-ready families?
There have been numerous rumors over the past year that Brooklyn had clashed with his parents over the use of Beckham’s name in business activities.
And in fact, he claimed in a statement that his parents tried to “bribe” him into “waiving the rights” to his name.
“They were adamant that I sign before the wedding date so the contract would start,” he wrote. “My patience affected my payday, and they have never treated me the same way since.”
However, Page Six was told that this was a “deliberate misrepresentation of fact” and that three years ago David and Victoria asked their son to sign a document protecting his name if he signed a big deal with Authentic Brands Group. (The company currently co-owns the Beckhams’ intellectual property.)
They reportedly wanted Brooklyn to sign a waiver, essentially a protective “coexistence” document. That means Brooklyn won’t infringe on his name.
“By this time, he had already joined Pertzes,” said another person familiar with the matter. “But Brooklyn works commercially every day and has been given de facto immunity[from name use]anyway. Of course, he has never been sued[by Authentic Brands]which proves that this is all nonsense.”
This week, it was reported that Victoria has trademarked all four of her children’s names – Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruise and Harper Beckham – with the UK Intellectual Property Office for branded products including clothing, toys and beauty products.
She trademarked Brooklyn’s name in 2016, and according to Page Six, Brooklyn inherited the trademark when she turned 18. They also pay an annual renewal fee.
“Brooklyn and his siblings, who are now over 18 years old, own the trademark, and Brooklyn manages the trademark with his own team,” the source said. “David and Victoria trademarked their child’s name to protect it for the future.”
But Brooklyn is already facing a legal battle over her name, through no fault of her parents. Last year, he clashed with German beer brand Beck’s when he tried to launch a burger restaurant called Beck’s Buns in the US as part of his Buster Sauce company, Page Six revealed.
Brooklyn’s trademark application sought the use of the name “Bex” in the United States on everything from sauces and clothing to kitchenware and beer.
The brewery, officially called Brauerei Beck and Co., filed an opposition with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. They also wanted to veto Brooklyn’s use of the Beck’s name for other phrases and potential products, including Beck’s Master Brew.
Brooklyn has since amended its trademark application to remove classifications for beer, spirits, wine, and mirin (a Japanese alcoholic beverage), but it is moving ahead with its burger business.
As previously reported, Brooklyn is close to her father-in-law, Nelson Peltz, the billionaire owner of the Wendy’s burger chain.
The Beckhams are estimated to be worth an estimated 500 million pounds ($678 million), according to the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List.
David’s wealth primarily derives from his 26% stake in Inter Miami CF (currently worth approximately $312 million), which was further increased with the addition of Lionel Messi. He also has lucrative long-term contracts with Adidas and Tudor, as well as a 10-year partnership with Qatar Tourism Authority.
Victoria’s wealth is fueled by her luxury fashion labels Victoria Beckham Limited and Victoria Beckham Beauty, which have experienced significant growth. The fashion brand is estimated to be worth £375m, with the Beckhams owning a 35% stake.
The Beckham family has amassed a fortune, but it pales in comparison to the Peltz family’s estimated fortune of $1.2 billion.
The Beckhams live full-time in the UK, but David will be based in the US for the World Cup this summer, potentially bringing him closer to his estranged son. Sources say he wants to work things out.
On Tuesday, David appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box in Davos with Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan. In a conversation about social media, he said: “Kids are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn. That’s what I try to teach them.”
But for now, Brooklyn plans to distance himself from his family.
“The parents did terrible things to Brooklyn and Nicola and continued to do so,” a Brooklyn source claimed. “He’s had enough.”
