Hootie & The Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker has formed a new rock supergroup to face REM co-founder Mike Mills and Black Crowes co-founder Steve Gorman.
“Rocker of the 90s” debut single “My Cologne” is scheduled to be released on October 31st. According to a press release, the tour will take place on November 3rd in Indianapolis, Indianapolis.
“It’s a great feeling to sing with a rock band again. It’s like having friends together, but you can also play with your idol,” Rucker, 59, said in a statement. “What we’re writing is very different from what I tried to do before.”
“I can’t explain band chemistry,” added Mills, 59. “We all like each other, and we all praise each other musically. If all of them come together and it’s not interesting, we don’t do it.”
Howl owl howl “It blends organic root rocks with open-minded alternative talents, matching the liquid emotionally oriented rhythm section with the iconic frontman’s barrel-hearted voice,” according to a press release.
“There’s no single guarantee. Finally plug in and rip a little,” Gorman, 60, said in a statement. The band began to start in 2021 with a “casual jam session.”
Rucker, who previously revealed he had moved to London in January, caught up exclusively with Aspen’s Food and Wine Classics in June about the new music he was working on at the time.

“I’m working on an album, and I’m sure my singles will be coming out here soon. “I’m looking forward to completing my record and revealing it. I think it’s refreshing, it’s new. I think my fans will be really, really excited.”
He continued, “I went to London to get another flavour, and I think I did. I think people like what we did.”
Rucker was a founding member of Hootie & The Blowfish, and in the spring of 1986 “Time” and “Only Wanna With You” took over the charts in 1994 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Meanwhile, Mills co-founded with friends Bill Berry, Peter Buck and Michael Stipe in Athens, Georgia in 1980 after the group gave their first show at a mutual friend’s birthday party. In 1991, “Losing My Religion” and “Shiny and Happy People” took over the airwaves.
Gorman has been intermittently the Black Crows drummer since its founding in 1989 to 2015. All three groups carved their own niche into the alternative rock scene of the early 1990s, lending it to the talents of the blues tradition and roots South.
