Danny Ramirez’s role in The Last of Us will be recast in season 3 due to scheduling conflicts.

Ramirez joined the cast in Season 2 of the HBO apocalypse drama. When the casting was announced in 2024, he played Manny, who was described as a “loyal soldier with a bright outlook, undaunted by the pain of old wounds and fear of failing when his friends need him most.” Manny is a former member of the Fireflies rebel militia and is friends with Abby (Kaitlyn Deaver), who helps her seek revenge on Joel. Pedro Pascal) for the massacre he committed at Firefly Hospital to save Ellie (Bella Ramsay).

Ramirez is best known for playing Joaquín Torres/Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the 2021 series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the 2025 film Captain America: The Brave New World, and the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. He will also appear in the upcoming Jean-Michel Basquiat biopic Samo Lives.

According to the official logline, The Last of Us takes place “20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardy survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a grueling and heartbreaking journey, as the two must cross the United States and rely on each other to survive.” Years later, “Joel and Ellie are at odds with each other and are drawn into a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

The series is based on the video game of the same name by Neil Druckmann, who co-created the television series with Craig Mazin. Both served as writers and directors for Season 2, but Druckmann stepped down from his creative role before Season 3 to focus on other projects.
