Daniel Radcliffe revealed on Good Morning America that he wrote a letter directly to child actor Dominic McLaughlin after he was cast as the new Harry Potter in the HBO reboot of the series. Radcliffe will forever be associated with the series after playing Harry at Warner Bros. ” McLaughlin has taken over the lead role in the HBO series, opposite Arabella Stanton as Hermione and Alastair Stout as Ron.
“I’m not saying that the person playing Harry has to contact me, but I know several people who are involved in the production,” Radcliffe said of the HBO series. “I wrote and sent a letter to Dominic, and he wrote back a very kind letter.”
“I don’t want to be a ghost in these kids’ lives, but I just wanted to say, ‘I hope you’re having the best time, and I hope you’re having an even better time than I was. I had a great time, and I hope you have an even better time,'” Radcliffe continued. “And I do. When I see these pictures of him and the other kids, I just want to hug them. They look so young. I just look at them and go, ‘Oh, it’s crazy that I was doing that at that age.'” But it’s also incredibly sweet, and I hope they’re having a great time. ”
The young cast of HBO’s Harry Potter series includes Rox Pratt (Draco Malfoy), Alessia Leoni (Parvati Patil), Leo Early (Seamus Finnigan), Rory Willmott (Neville Longbottom), and Amos Kitson (Dudley Dursley). In July, the BBC reported that the series’ production base, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, had built a makeshift school to allow young actors to continue their studies during the nearly 10-year filming period, with one of JK Rowling’s books to be featured in each season of the show.
The Harry Potter series is scheduled to air on HBO and HBO Max in 2027. Watch Radcliffe’s full interview on “Good Morning America” in the video below.
