A source previously confirmed D’Angelo’s death, telling PEOPLE, “He was in hospice for two weeks and had been in the hospital for several months.”
D’Angelo’s death comes months after Michael’s mother, singer Angie Stone, passed away earlier this year.
Stone was involved in a car accident in March. After a show in Mobile, Alabama, Stone and several others were driving through Montgomery County, Alabama, toward Atlanta when Liesel Carter, the driver of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
